Maps Are Fiction are a trio of dark pop purveyors, who met as children in a butcher’s shop in South Shields. Years later, they re-grouped as Maps Are Fiction and conspired to make melodic music with dark lyrics, as grizzly as the carcasses hanging from the butcher’s hooks. Debut album “Post Mortem Family Portrait” hemorrhages twisted guitars and bleak sentiment, layered over throat-grabbing melodies. At live shows, Maps Are Fiction make more racket than can be believed for a 3 piece, where synths joins forces with bass, drums, delay-drowned guitars and harmony soaked vocals, to create a darkly satisfying experience.
